icy, caffeinated goodness

So, it’s that time of year again. It’s time to open all the windows, pull out the shorts and tank tops, paint my nails bright colors, and…. switch from hot coffee to COLD BREW!

Let’s be real, bright teal nail polish just doesn’t fly in the dead of winter (even a California winter where nothing is actually dead)

But back to what really matters, cold brew. Cold brewed coffee is seriously the greatest invention ever. It tastes amazing because since cold-brewing produces makes for less acid, coffee’s other flavors are more readily detected (think chocolate, fruit, nuts, etc). It also makes me feel like a million bucks, and because it is about 70% less acidic than hot-brewed coffee, it makes my stomach and teeth happy.

What I also love about old-brewing (as a self-proclaimed coffee snob) is that it exposes coffee for exactly what it is. You can taste the true essence of the coffee because all that REALLY matters are the beans. So choose wisely my friends. Some of my favorites? Chameleon Cold-Brew, Stumptown Coffee Roasters (both found at Whole Foods)

I have grown very accustom to my morning routine of Coconutty Protein Coffee, but this particular year, the changing of the seasons, the longer days, and the cold-brewed coffee, are all made that much more amazing by my latest Bruner kitchen creation (which isn’t all that different from what I have already shared, but I am excited nonetheless).

So, without further ado, I introduce to you….

The Rocket Fuel Chia Mochachino

  • Servings: 1
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Print

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • CLEAN, minimally processed vanilla protein powder (meaning no antibiotics, hormones, soy, gluten, GMO, artificial flavor, or crap) – my protein of choice is the SFH FUEL
  • 1/4 – 1/2 cup Cold-Brewed Coffee (or more if you like)*
  • 1/2 cup Uber Rocket Fuel – or homemade nut milk or coconut milk straight from the can (full fat, BPA free)
  • 1 TBS organic chia seeds
  • a handful of ice

NOTES:

*If you choose Chameleon Cold-Brew, you need to add equal parts water because it is diluted, so measure accordingly (your 1/4 – 1/2 cup will include the water)

*NorCal CrossFit members can order Uber HERE and have it delivered directly to the gym for pickup! Shoot me an email if you have questions on this.

WHAT TO DO:

  • Put everything into your Vitamix or blender
  • turn on until you have frothy, icy, amazing goodness
  • ENJOY!!

This seriously tasted AWESOME, and I never want it to get cold out again….

AND it was great pre-workout fuel, along with my ATP Mechanix, of course. I seriously felt like I had one of the best training days in months. It must have been this shipment that came in of the greatest pre and post workout formula ever…. expect an ATP post very soon, but feel free to shoot me an email if you have any questions.
